Teachers

Daire MacAnBhaird

Dara´s love of dancing started with moving to the latin rhythms growing up in the Caribbean, but he fell in love with Lindy Hop in the frozen north of Scotland, in 2009, and fell in love again with Blues at a workshop just 6 months later.

Dara comes from a dancing family; doing yoga at age 3 with his mum (in case you’re wondering how such a tall man can be so bendy); three of the brothers dance, teach and organise dance events around the world. Co-founder of “Crash! The Blues Festival”, Delft, and Safer Spaces point person at many events, Dáire loves to contribute in the dance community – you’ll usually find him doing something behind the scenes at every event he attends.

Dara has been teaching Lindy Hop and Blues since 2011 and lived out of a suitcase as a travelling man for 5 years; moving between scenes, teaching and DJing workshops around Europe. In 2017, he relocated to Valencia – finally back in the warm climate he enjoys – to join forces with Leigh and cook up some special sauce for some of the biggest blues events in Europe.

Dara teaches Blues Dance, Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz, blues DJing and blues history both in his home scene in Valencia, Spain; and at international blues events. (Check out the Calendar here)

Jenna Applegarth

Jenna found swing dancing in 2004 in her small local scene of Wenatchee WA. Since then she has spent countless hours expanding her dancing repertoire and sharing her love and knowledge of these dances with others. Her energy and passion create the perfect environment for learning.

Jenna has attended, coordinated, and taught various workshops and exchanges all across the globe. Some of her favorite highlights are performing at Benaroya Hall in The Jump Session Show and teaching for Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. Above all else she believes that learning to dance should be fun, and rooted in the music and history. With over 15 years of teaching/coaching/training experience, she loves finding new ways to connect with other dancers on the floor and in the classroom and to create challenging yet applicable lessons in the classroom

Tracks

Two Blues dance workshop tracks with 5 hours of classes each are waiting for you at Winter Wonderland Blues:

  • Intermediate track
  • Advanced track
What track is the right one for me?

Our teachers have provided a guideline for you to determine where you are standing:

Intermediate:

You have taken blues classes before, dance blues socially and have attended a few (or more) workshops. You’re ready to develop your understanding of the blues, improve your technique and widen your dancing vocabulary!

Advanced:

You go to regular blues classes, have attended international workshops and you dance blues regularly. You have a sound understanding of the blues and solid technique and you’re ready for more!

What do I do if I am a beginner?

We recommend, get yourself a Party ticket and book a private class with Dara and/or Jenna. When you are at the beginning of your journey into Blues dancing having a private class with lots of personal feedback from these great teachers will bring you from zero to hero.

Privates can be booked in the registration form.

Muscicians

During our party on Saturday we present to you these amazing Blues Musicians:

Stef Rosen Trio (Saturday)

Stef Rosen is a guitar player and singer from Berlin, Germany. His way of composing, playing and arranging is inspired by the soulful electric blues from the late 60s and early 70s.

He looks at the tradition of this music with a personal and respectful attitude. He is constantly touring around the World, playing in blues clubs, Festival, and blues dance events as solo artist or collaborating with other great musicians and bands.

He has been constantly touring non-stop..from New York to Seoul, from London to Moscow .. anywhere people need to dance their blues away!

Accompanied by the wonderful Lorenzo „Washboard Man“ Bergamino (Percussions) and Matthias Falkenau (Organ) , they create music unlike we have heard in Erlangen before.
